Quality Training Systems (QTS) is a small but growing company that has established itself as a respected expert in helping electric utilities across the US and Canada meet their training goals by applying the systematic approach to training. The ideal candidate for the Junior Instructional Designer position will learn to anticipate, develop, and implement innovative solutions for our customers’ training challenges. The scope of work includes consulting on training program design and curriculum development, providing software coaching, technical software help desk/customer service, and data entry and implementation support for our clients throughout the US and Canada. This position is aimed toward advancement to a full-time Consultant role. The ideal candidate will grow and learn with QTS, using this position as a stepping-stone toward advancing the Consulting Department.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Working with a team to complete project tasks, assuring quality of deliverables, and tracking time
  • Working independently while understanding the necessity of communicating and coordinating work efforts with team members
  • Working remotely with client subject matter experts to collect data for job analysis, training needs, performance requirements, operating procedures, technical systems, processes, and other related information
  • Organizing data and entry into our flagship software program, Quality Training Database
  • Providing quality data entry support for the QTS Consulting team
  • Ability to work from a home office or other professional environment free from auditory or visual distractions; location may be anywhere within the continental United States
  • Full-time, 40-hour work week with occasional after-hours or weekend scheduled work. Work hours for this position are based on Central time zone hours: 8am-5pm CST, Monday through Friday
  • Salary Range: $55K to $65K plus excellent health, dental, vision, life, short-term and long-term disability insurance; and 401K benefits

Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)

  • A bachelor’s degree in Industrial Psychology, Organizational Behavior, Engineering, Instructional Design, Technical Writing, or related field. A master’s degree is preferred
  • Three years of experience in Instructional Design and Technical Writing, including ability to:
    • Design training courses and programs to meet client needs
    • Develop training materials including lesson plans, on-the-job training guides, tests, performance assessments, etc., consistent with the principles of adult learning theory and instructional design theory
    • Leverage eLearning tools and technologies (e.g. Articulate, Captivate, etc.) to develop and enhance training materials
  • Ability to analyze and logically organize complex technical information and transform complex bodies of information into professionally designed, engaging, and effective training
  • A strong willingness to “Get Stuff Done” and deliver value regularly to clients
  • Capacity to work well in a team environment or individually on projects
  • Able to apply discretion and trust with confidential material
  • Ability to effectively use analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Can work independently, self-directed with excellent time managing skills and multi-task, prioritize, and meet deadlines
  • Meticulous and able to handle routine data entries accurately and efficiently
  • Proficient with all Microsoft Office applications
